Douglas Lawson Joins Harris Nesbitt's Commercial and Industrial Investment Banking Group

CHICAGO, March 20, 2006 – Harris Nesbitt, the U.S. investment and corporate banking arm of BMO Financial Group (NYSE, TSX: BMO), today announced it has hired Douglas Lawson as a managing director in its Commercial and Industrial group. Lawson will head the packaging investment banking practice, and will be based in Chicago.

Lawson has 20 years of experience in finance and investment banking. His transaction experience includes numerous sale mandates, buy-side advisory services, leveraged buyouts, fairness opinions and financings for a wide variety of clients, including private equity groups, public companies and privately owned businesses.

Lawson joins the organization from Piper Jaffray & Company's Chicago-based Middle Market Mergers & Acquisitions group, where he started and headed the packaging practice. He has represented numerous packaging companies in a financial advisory capacity including companies in the flexible, rigid, label, paper and machinery sectors.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray in 2000, he was a director in the Fixed Income Origination group at ABN AMRO Inc. Previously he was head of the Global Project & Infrastructure Finance group at Duff & Phelps Credit Rating Agency and worked as a financial analyst at DBRS. In addition, Lawson gained experience in public accounting at Ernst & Young and Coopers & Lybrand and in law at a large Canadian law firm.

Lawson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Western Ontario. He is qualified as an accountant and a lawyer.
