    Harris Announces Sponsorship of City Treasurer's Small Business Expo and Business Plan Competition

    Competition a Centerpiece of August Small Business Expo

    CHICAGO, May 3, 2006 - Harris is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the City Treasurer's 5th annual Small Business Expo and the 2nd annual Business Plan Competition, which will be held in conjunction with the Small Business Expo. This year's expo will take place at the University of Illinois at Chicago on Friday, August 11th. The sponsorships were officially announced today at a Money Smart Week event hosted by Harris.

    The City Treasurer's Small Business Expo is a forum, free to attendees, designed to provide assistance to small business owners and those who would like to become one. The Expo will bring local government, lending institutions and technical advisors together to provide information and direction vital to the success of a small business. Existing and prospective business owners can attend workshops, network with other business professional and obtain useful information from technical advisors and representatives of financial institutions, including Harris.

    The Business Plan Competition is designed to give start-up small business owners and existing small business owners the opportunity to submit written business plans and win monetary prizes to support their businesses or get a business started.

    "Part of our responsibility to our customers is to be their trusted advisor and a piece of advice we always give our small business customers is to develop a sound plan - a road map to success," said Mike Lewis, executive vice president and president of the City Region for Harris. "Therefore, Harris is delighted to sponsor the City Treasurer's Small Business Expo and more specifically the second annual Business Plan competition as a way for us to show our continued support to entrepreneurs."

    Applicants are encouraged to join this competition by submitting their business plans to the City Treasurer's Office by July 7, 2006, via U.S. mail, fax or e-mail.

    A panel of distinguished professionals from the fin ancial, legal, marketing and academic sectors will select the winners, which will be formally announced at the Small Business Expo in August. This year's competition will award first - and second - place prizes to both existing businesses and start-up businesses participating in the competition. The first place prize awarded in each track will be $7,500 and the second place prize awarded in each track will be $2,500.
