Harris Announces Community Hero of the Game
Dr. Patricia Sherer of Northbrook Named Harris Community Hero of the Game

CHICAGO, November 29, 2007 – Harris is pleased to congratulate Dr. Patricia Sherer of Northbrook, Ill., who was recognized as a Harris Community Hero of the Game. Dr. Sherer was honored by Harris and the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday evening before the Chicago Bulls -Atlanta Hawks game at the United Center.

Dr. Sherer is the president and founder of the International Center on Deafness and the Arts (ICODA). In 1973, while teaching at Northwestern University, she recognized the need to provide opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children to develop their creativity and talents through quality experiences in the arts. She then founded ICODA and began working with a small group of deaf children between 8-10 years old.

In the years since, the organization has provided over 20,000 children, adolescents and adults with direct services, and more than 40,000 deaf, hard of hearing and hearing individuals from the U.S. and other English speaking countries have experienced the many theatrical and educational programs presented by ICODA. Dr. Sherer is now working to go a step further and construct a modern facility with the hopes of spreading ICODA's services across the country and the world.

As part of the bank's presenting sp onsorship agreement with the team, Harris and the Bulls are joining to recognize a Community Hero of the Game before every Bulls home game this year. The program recognizes individuals who generously give their time and talents to help our communities thrive. The designated hero receives two tickets to a game and is recognized by Bulls team captains at center court prior to tip-off.
