Harris Announces "Paws for a Cause"
Central Indiana Branches Roar into Action to Support the Indianapolis Zoo

CHICAGO, June 16, 2008 - Harris Bank is introducing "Paws for a Cause," a program to benefit the African lions at the Indianapolis Zoo. Harris is the major sponsor of the African Lions at the Indianapolis Zoo and the Paws for a Cause program will help the Zoo feed, maintain and train the lions.

The idea for Paws for a Cause began last year following the announcement that a new female lion was coming to the Indianapolis Zoo from Denver in hopes that she would produce a cub. With the additional expense of feeding a third lion, Harris will be asking customers for a $1 donation to help the zoo support the lions. Their name will be placed on a paw card and posted in the bank. Harris is hoping to raise $3000 by June 21, when the bank will host Lions Awareness Day at the Indianapolis Zoo and make the gift presentation.

Harris will also be the sponsor of the 3D IMAX film, Roar of the Kalahari, which opens June 27th and runs through September. Discount coupons for this movie will be available at all 27 Harris locations throughout central Indiana. The ticket stub from IMAX is also good for a discount on admission to the Indianapolis Zoo where tourists can see live African Lions sponsored by Harris.

Harris' mascot, Hubert the Lion, was created in 1958 by the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency at the same time the agency created the advertising icons, Tony the Tiger and The Jolly Green Giant. Harris uses a lion's face as its logo because the lion is the image of strength, trust, and credibility. Hubert was created to mirror the logo and help children see the importance of savi ng their money. While the bank recently celebrated its 125th year in business, Hubert is celebrating his 50th birthday this year. Harris is taking time to pause for a cause to celebrate Hubert’s birthday and help the African Lions at the Indianapolis Zoo.
