ocal M&I Branches Sponsoring August Food Drive to Battle Hunger
Residents are encouraged to support six Arizona food banks
PHOENIX, Ariz., July 28, 2011 – Nearly one in seven Arizonans are living in poverty, and every week, nearly 22,000 receive food assistance. While many are hungry year-round, hunger rates spike during the summer months, when food banks experience lower-than-average donations. In an effort to help feed those in need, Arizona M&I branches are collecting canned and non-perishable food items throughout the month of August. M&I, A part of BMO Financial Group, is inviting residents to join the venture by donating food including canned soups, tuna, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, baby formula, cereal, rice, pasta and beans.
M&I branch food donations will benefit:
- St. Mary's Food Bank (collected from West Valley & Central Phoenix branches)
- United Food Bank (collected from Southeast Valley branches)
- Yavapai Food Bank (collected from Prescott & Prescott Valley branches)
- Foothills Food Bank (collected from Northeast branches)
- Community Food Bank (collected from Tucson branches)
- Sedona Food Bank (collected from the Sedona branch)
"Even small donations can add up and make a huge impact for families in need," said Stephen Johnson, President – M&I Arizona Region. "As a committed, community-minded bank, M&I is proud to lend assistance to these deserving organizations."
M&I has been giving back to the communities it serves for more than 160 years. In addition to the food drive, M&I has hosted school supply drives; created Southern Arizona's Heroes Day which recognizes stand-out first responders; and regularly hosts financial seminars for various audiences including senior citizens, minorities, young families starting out and small business owners. Additionally, since 2001
, M&I has held annual company-wide Community Days during which employees volunteer their time and give back to neighborhoods.
