CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Aug 13, 2014) - A study released today by BMO Harris Bank found that an overwhelming majority of business owners and executives do not truly "get away from it all" when on vacation, with 84 percent of them checking work emails during their holidays.
"The speed at which information travels today has been instrumental in driving business productivity throughout the world," said Dave Casper, Executive Vice President and Head, Commercial Banking, BMO Harris Bank. "At the same time, that same speed drives the need to stay connected, especially in a highly competitive environment."
That "always on" mentality translates into long hours focused on work. While 70 percent of business leaders describe themselves as workaholics, only 10 percent of those same respondents cite their workaholic tendencies as the primary reason for their success. When asked which of the following attributes were more responsible for success in the business world, the answers were as follows:

"The ability to bring new ideas and perspectives transcends industries and roles, and has always been a key component of a successful career," added Casper.
The survey was conducted by Pollara with an online sample of 601 American business owners in November, 2013. A probability sample of this size would be accurate to +/- 4%, 19 times out of 20.
